Laboratory Systems

The MSU College of Veterinary Medicine is responsible for operation of the state's diagnostic laboratories.

Known as the Mississippi Veterinary Research and Diagnostic Laboratory System, or MVRDLS, this network includes a group of labs charged with providing surveillance and diagnostic testing for practicing veterinarians, individual producers, pet owners, and the livestock, aquaculture, and poultry industries throughout the state.

These four labs hold full accreditation from the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians and are a part of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN), Level 1:

  1. CVM Diagnostic & Aquatic Lab (DAL) located on the college's main campus in Starkville, MS. This lab provides diagnostic support to the college's Animal Health Center and serves as the teaching laboratory for professional and graduate students.
  2. Mississippi Veterinary Research & Diagnostic Lab (MVRDL) located in Pearl, MS. MVRDL offers a wide range of diagnostic services for various animal species, including livestock, wildlife, and aquatic animals.
  3. Poultry Research & Diagnostic Lab (PRDL) located in Pearl, MS. PRDL is housed within the MVRDL and works closely with the poultry industry, non-commercial poultry producers, and pet bird owners.
  4. Aquatic Research & Diagnostic Lab (ARDL) located in Stoneville, MS. ARDL is housed within an aquaculture center in the Mississippi delta staffed with state and federal scientists focused on addressing problems faced by the catfish industry.

In addition to protecting animal and human health and supporting agriculture and economic growth, the MVRDLS provides phenomenal learning and research opportunities for CVM faculty researchers and students!
