DVM Year 4 Rotations

A second full year of hands-on training under our expert faculty clinicians in our on-site teaching hospital and off-site emergency and referral center ensures you'll be practice ready on day one!

Year 4 clinical rotations in our on-campus teaching hospital include: small animal internal medicine, large animal ambulatory medicine, neurology/neurosurgery, shelter medicine, ophthalmology, oncology, dermatology, and emergency medicine/critical care.

In addition, you'll continue customizing the curriculum to hone your skills and refine your passion in vet med!

  • Focus on Real-World Practice: You'll gain additional practical skills by continuing to work with live animals under the guidance of faculty clinicians, performing procedures, interacting with clients, and making clinical diagnoses and treatment decisions.
  • Comprehensive Skill Development: Extensive clinical exposure will give you proficiency in a wide range of veterinary diagnostics, procedures, surgery, and patient care, preparing you for a variety of professional roles.
  • Further Customization: Year 4 provides further exposure to large and small animal medicine but also allows you to continue to customize your education through enhanced clinical practicums and elective rotations.
  • Exposure to Farm Calls: The U.S. is experiencing a shortage of large animal veterinarians, and you'll further develop your knowledge and skills in this area through our ambulatory medicine rotation.
  • Additional Exposure to Small Animal Emergency Care: You'll also travel to the CVM Animal Emergency & Referral Center in Flowood, MS, to gain experience and learn in a fast-paced small animal emergency clinic.
  • Surgical Skill Refinement: Through a rotation with our nationally-recognized shelter medicine program, you'll complete more than 70 surgeries, honing your surgical skills and building your confidence as a surgeon.
