DVM Year 3 Clinical Rotations

Leave the classroom and labs behind and begin your first of two full years of hands-on training under our expert faculty clinicians in our on-site teaching hospital!

Year 3 clinical rotations in our on-campus teaching hospital include: community veterinary service, radiology, laboratory services/pathology, anesthesia, small animal surgery, food animal medicine, equine internal medicine and surgery, and population medicine.

In addition, you'll begin customizing the curriculum to find your passion in veterinary medicine!

  • Based on the Books: Year 3 builds on all the knowledge you gained in Years 1 & 2. It's the first of two years where you have the opportunity to "practice" being a veterinarian under the guidance of faculty clinicians.
  • Real-world Experience: You'll gain practical skills by working with live animals, performing procedures, interacting with clients, and making clinical decisions.
  • Marine Animal Training: You'll experience hands-on learning with dolphins, sea turtles, and other marine animals at our location on the Mississippi Gulf Coast!
  • Population Medicine Focus: Learn the importance of veterinary medicine in animal populations and how it impacts not only the animals but the environment and public health.
  • Customize Your Curriculum: You'll have the opportunity to tailor your education through a set number of required enhanced clinical practicums and elective rotations.
